Importing customers and services from another panel: a checklist
Before you move data between panels, check these items. A missed step can mean wrong balances, broken services or customers who can't sign in.
Importing data from an existing panel saves you from starting over. Use this checklist so nothing important gets lost.
Customers
- Names and email addresses (deduplicated, lowercase)
- Balances — and a check that the total matches the old panel to the cent
- Custom prices and discounts per customer
- Account status (active, suspended)
- A plan for passwords: carry the hashes over, or send reset links
Services
- Names, categories and descriptions
- Your prices, minimums and maximums
- The provider and provider service ID behind each one
- Refill and cancel settings
Orders and payments
- Order history (for customers' records and your reports)
- Open orders: leave them to finish on the old system where possible
- Payment history
Before you go live
- Sign in as a test customer and check the balance
- Place a small real order on your busiest service
- Make a small test payment
- Confirm password reset emails arrive
Afterwards
Keep a full export of the old panel. If a customer questions their balance a month later, you'll want the original numbers.
