DNS records explained for SMM panel owners

A, CNAME, MX, TXT — the DNS records behind your panel's domain, what each one does, and the mistakes that take panels offline.

Your domain's DNS records decide where visitors, emails and verification checks go. A wrong record can make your panel unreachable or send your emails straight to spam.

The records you'll meet

  • A record — points your domain to a server's IP address. This is how visitors reach your panel.
  • CNAME — points one name to another name, often used for subdomains such as www.
  • MX — tells the world which server receives email for your domain.
  • TXT — free-form text used for verification and email security, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Email deliverability depends on DNS

Password reset and order emails that land in spam are a common complaint. Three TXT records fix most of it:

  • SPF lists the servers allowed to send email for your domain.
  • DKIM adds a cryptographic signature that proves an email wasn't altered.
  • DMARC tells receivers what to do when SPF or DKIM fail.

The sending address must also match your domain. An email "from" your domain but sent through an unrelated server fails these checks — we learned this one first-hand.

Changes take time

DNS changes spread gradually, sometimes over several hours. Lower the TTL (time to live) a day before a planned change so it takes effect faster.

Keep your registrar account secure

Whoever controls your DNS controls your panel. Use a strong password and two-factor authentication at your registrar.
